Melancholy (2007)
Despite its name, Melancholy is not altogether melancholic. The violin, which serves as the source for all of the sounds you hear in the piece, is more of a tour guide through the introspective contemplations of the composer one winter’s dawn. As the world awakens, the epic potential of any given day as a human being is reflected in the evolution of the piece towards its climax. Yet ultimately, the violin returns refreshed to the “reality” of the beautiful winter’s morning where this waking dream began.
